Donations

Does the HSUS offer matching gifts?

Yes. Find out whether your company has a qualifying program, get the form from your employer, and then make your donation online or send your donation via check through the mail. Then send your completed and signed form, along with a copy of your check or online donation receipt, to:
The Humane Society of the United States

ATTN: Matching Gifts Program

Can I make a donation in honor of a special someone?

Honor a friend, relative or even a pet with a gift donation to the Humane Society of the United States. Gift donations are a great alternative to a traditional birthday, anniversary or holiday gift—you can even send one just to say you care!

How do I request a receipt to document my donation?

The HSUS does not send receipts for individual donations under $75 unless specifically requested. Individuals who have made a one-time donation of $75 or more automatically receive a receipt. If you would like to receive a receipt for a single donation you made to the HSUS, please call our membership department at 866-720-2676 and we can mail you a receipt.

Members who donate online automatically receive a donation receipt sent to their registered email account each time their donations are processed online.

How do I cancel my monthly donation?

Your monthly donation may be canceled by contacting our Donor Care team at 1-866-720-2676 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

How much of my donation actually goes toward helping animals?

The Humane Society of the United States and its affiliates spend 71 % of all gifts directly on lifesaving animal protection programs, while the remaining funds help maintain our infrastructure and operations. Like any nonprofit organization, the HSUS carries out marketing, fundraising and public awareness programs designed to reach the public, grow our membership and influence key decision-makers in the public and private sectors.

How can I be taken off your fundraising call list?

If you prefer not to be contacted by phone, please contact our Donor Care team at 1-866-609-7639 to have your name removed from our call list or email us.

How is the HSUS affiliated with my local humane society?

Local humane societies and SPCAs are independent entities and aren't run or overseen by the HSUS (or any other national entity). The HSUS works with and supports local shelters in many ways, but running local animal shelters is not why we were founded. We're here to tackle the biggest national and global fights for animals, systemic cruelties that are typically beyond the scope of local organizations to address. We support the work of shelters, humane societies and rescue groups through training, mentorship, public policy reform, assistance with large-scale rescues and disaster response, as well as other services.
